liner

That’s 5 lines of eyeliners from left: Majolica Liquid Liner, Bobbi Brown Gel Liner, Revlon Colourstay Pencil Liner, Mac Engraved Pencil Liner.

Bobbi Brown gives the richest black with no speckles of spaces in between the black.  I love gel liners for its creamy and rich consistency.  The liquid liner tends to be a little shiny and too “thin” for my liking.  The pencil liners… are ok I guess… but a little too much speckles of spaces in the black for my liking.

The liquid and gel liners also dry well but the pencil liners feel sticky to the touch.

smudged

Doing the smudge test, as can be seen, the Majolica Liquid Liner didn’t budge at all.  Very impressive!  The Bobbi Brown Gel Liner smudged… but its consistency remained.  The 2 pencil liners flopped… with the Mac one flopping more.

What was surprising though, was when I tried to wash the liners off, the Bobbi Brown was the most difficult to get rid off.  Wonder if that means if I cry… the Bobbi Brown one would stay the best on my eyes?

Hmm…

More eyeliner test results… used the brown liquid liner with glitter from Majolica for my D&D last Friday.  Very good… no smudges.  So I bought the black liquid liner on Sunday.  Used it to tightline my upper lids (tightline – I learnt that’s a better way to describe “drawing the line below the lashes on my upper eyelids”).  No smudges!  Woohoo!  It’s the brush tip is quite firm so it’s not difficult to apply either.  Yippee!  I love Majolica’s liquid liners.

I’ve been using the Majolica eyeshadow for a week now too… it’s better than Can Makeup for sure… but still more powdery / chalkier than Silkygirl’s.  I really quite like the texture of Silkygirl’s eyeshadows.

Oh.. backtrack to eyeliners… I also bought the Revlon Colourstay Pencil Liner (the one that comes with the tip that you twist the bottom and the tip will extend).  It’s better than Mac’s Engrave Pencil Liner… but still stains a bit.  Nothing beats Majolica’s Liquid Liner for now!!

Okie… enough skiving for me… a lot of work… but no mood to work on a rainy Monday after a heavy lunch.  Sigh.

OCD?

I can’t help it - but I keep buying things that look alike.  Is this a sign of OCD?  Or is this called "personal style"?

04112008695

Shoes on the left were bought about a year ago, the ones in the middle were bought 2 years ago, and the ones on the right were bought today.

04112008696

Top on the left was bought in May 2008 and the top on the right was bought today too!  See the similar sleeve?  Sigh.

I have another 3 pairs of shoes with a buckle across the front.  Hehe.  Wanted to take a photo too except 2 of the pairs are in office.  :P

More Beauty Products!

sexy girl night repair oil essence      Gosh.  Booze Queen, Azure and I really raided Watsons (Ngee Ann City) on Monday.  How could I forget to mention 2 other fabulous products I bought.  The first is (please forgive it’s dubious name… it is from Japan after all) "Sexy Girl Night Repair Oil Essence".  To be applied to semi-dry or dry hair, this oil essence softens the hair and makes the ends smoother.  Tried it at Watons as well as last night (applied to semi-dry hair before blow drying).  It’s good!  Light (doesn’t feel as though you applied anything, which is something I hate about leave-in conditioners) and non-sticky, it left my hair really soft this morning.  Great buy!

CURE

The next product is Natural Aqua Gel Cure.  This is a gel-like lotion to be applied on freshly washed (and dried) skin.  Booze Queen and Azure tested it at Watsons by applying it on the back of 1 hand only.  After rubbing the skin in a circular motion, teeny bits of dried skin clumps appeared.  Upon using tissue to wipe the lotion off, the hand was visibly whiter than the other!  Truly amazing.

This is very similar to Ginvera’s exfoliating cleanser but I’ve never tried Ginvera’s exfoliating cleanser on my hand so I can’t comment which is more effective.  Heh.

Ok… that’s all the vainpot posts for now… time to shower.  :)

Succumbed…

I succumbed.  Wasn’t going to buy any Majolica products as Booze Queen should be able to get a cheaper price when she visits Japan end of this year.  However, my beige eyeshadow happened to run out so I decided I might as well buy the Majolica beige eyeshadow from the Watsons at Ngee Ann City.

While I was there however, I was lured by the very friendly and unobtrusive sales staff into trying the liquid eyeliner.  I quite liked the brown shimmery one… and ended up buying that, a brown eyeshadow and the beige eyeshadow!  Sigh.  I was a sucker…

But I digress… I was tempted to buy the black Majolica liquid liner as well but I’ve never used a liquid liner before so I was worried I wouldn’t be able to control the brush tip (especially when I want to draw a line below my upper eyelashes).  So I stuck to the brown shimmery one which I figured I could use to draw a line above my upper lashes.

Very inspired by my new toys (seriously, makeup products are much cheaper toys than handphones and other tech gadgets!), I decided to do a simple smudge test.  I applied moisturiser on my hand, followed by foundation, and then I used 3 different eyeliners on it.

Here’s a pic with the 3 liners being:

1) Majolica Liquid Eyeliner in Brown

2) Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Black

3) MAC Powerpoint Pencil Engraved (black)

28102008687

Many reviews have said MAC Powerpoint Pencil Liners are supposed to be really smudge proof… but my oily eyelids have brought about their failure in this aspect.  Anyway, the results showed that:

28102008688

1) The Majolica liquid liner became lighter after a hard rub but didn’t smudge.

2) The BB Gel Liner smudged

3) The MAC Powerpoint really smudged… but it smudged evenly so I suppose if the intention is to give it a blended effect, this product may be good?

Heh.  Oh well… that’s the end of my simple ("scientific") test.  Will update soon… after I walk in the melting noon sun to go for lunch.  Now that, is the ultimate eyeliner smudge test.

God’s Gift to Oily Lids?

image Bought a Bridal magazine for the first time yesterday.  Didn’t yield much useful information – I didn’t like the gowns inside nor the hairstyles nor pretty much anything else.  The one and only useful tip I got was the introduction to the product in the picture on my right – Eye makeup remover in the form of a cotton bud.  Clarification: it doesn’t remove all your eye makeup but it probably helps in cleaning up or touching up spots and smudges.

Just did a search online and found that this product is sold at Apothecary + Co. at Raffles City Shopping Centre!  I can’t wait to get it.  Since I can get rid of my oily eyelids, I might as well get something that can tackle them!

——————————-

And for the record, for me, the Bobbi Brown Gel Liner does smudge… but not as bad as MAC’s Gel Liner.  :)

Eyeliner & Me

Author: uptowngal
10 23rd, 2008

I used to be very scared of using eyeliner ‘cos the thought of drawing something so near my eyeballs was scary.  I’ve also always had problems with pencil liners ‘cos somehow, they just don’t come out very smooth on my eyelids.  What irritates me the most is when I can’t get the black line to be on my lash line.  (When using eyeliner on the upper lid, having a gap between gap between the eyeliner and the lash line is ugly!)

Anyway, Azure showed me this youtube vid some time back, and the girl in the clip was recommending MAC’s gel eyeliner.  I bought it and tried.  Lo and behold!  Finally… a liner that comes on quite easily on my eye.

But that still didn’t solve the problem of the "gap".  Booze Queen had a solution for me.  Instead of drawing the eyeliner on top of the lash line, draw it below!  Yup.  That makes it REALLY close to the eyeballs but you won’t have the problem of the "gap".  Heh.  Excellent solution.

While that got rid of my main irritation, it brought on another problem.  I have oily lids so after going out in Singapore’s tropical heat ("hot"…"humid"), my eyeliner will smudge and stain the area below my lower lids… making it look as though I have severe eyebags.

Not sure how to solve this problem… I mean, how does one get rid of oily lids?  Hmm…

Anyway, I recently switched to Bobbi Brown’s gel liner.  I think they’re better than MAC’s ‘cos they go on the lids more smoothly and you need to use less of the liner for each application.  So even though the little pot is a couple more dollars more expensive than MAC’s gel liner, you still end up saving more money.

I’m having a good eyeliner day today.  No smudges… yet.  Not sure if it’s ‘cos I applied a teeny weeny bit of mascara on my lower lashes today… *shrugs*…or maybe my lids are just not as oily today.  Well, I’ll continue testing and let you know.  Heh.

Days are Packed

The approval for the new girl and me to attend our regional product conference in Bangkok was finally given yesterday.  Saw Upsize walking to the Managing Director’s room in the afternoon and I suspected it was to get a final yes/no to us going to BKK.  I’m glad it’s a yes.

Though I’m not that enthusiastic ‘cos I need to prepare a short presentation again and there’s hardly any time for R&R, I’m still happy that I get to go.  Poor Kid’s Meal will have to stay in office while Bigmac, New Girl (haven’t thought of a nick for her yet) and I go to BKK.  (Beanstalk’s not going but that’s ‘cos he has resigned).

Two things I need to decide now.  Firstly, should I go buy another t-shirt from Esprit during lunch tomorrow or should I go for a manicure?  Secondly, should I go for a massage when I arrive in BKK on Sun noon time or should I go shop around?  (Drawback about shopping is that my hotel’s near the river rather than the main shopping belt).  Thirdly, should I bring my laptop to BKK since I am unlikely to be able to charge any Internet usage on my office bill?

Decisions decisions.  Oh, but one thing that I did decide was that I prefer the MAC gel liner compared to the pencil one.  The gel liner is easier to draw (for me) and it seems to stay on longer too.  The pencil liner tends to get washed away by my tears.  Hmm.

Okie… that’s it for now.  Need to go brush teeth and sleep before I oversleep tomorrow again!!  Going to set 4 alarms!

Hollywood Glam

Author: uptowngal

Sigh.  Iceman got a wedding invitation today that says the theme of the night is "Hollywood Glam".  Sounded fun at first… but given that the wedding is less than a month away, and I’m on a tight budget trying to save for my own wedding.  How on earth am I supposed to dig up something suitable to wear?  Sigh.  Azure’s response when I told her about it was, "Why do they make it so difficult?".  My reply to that was, "Maybe next year I’ll take revenge!  Do a Strawberry Shortcake and My Little Pony theme".

You know, I would love to have a outlandish theme for my wedding too.  It would make for great photos… but to trouble the guests to dress up to a specific theme?  Hmm… doesn’t seem that nice.

Thinking of wearing my ao dai for this "Hollywood Glam" thing… and perhaps do up my hair to try to gain "glam" credits.  Don’t think I have anything much more formal than that.

Where to draw the Line…

Author: uptowngal
09 16th, 2008

Hehe.. realised my title can be a little misleading.  Got a beauty question for all girls out there actually… how do you draw your eyeliner on your upper eyelid?  Do you draw the line above or below the lashes?

I recently got inspired to use eyeliner again after doing eye makeup hassle free for my cousin’s wedding last week.  I usually draw the line above my lashes… but Booze Queen advised that if I don’t want to "hide" my double eyelids, I should draw the line below the lashes.

I tried it the next day and it worked.  My double eyelids were more obvious when I drew the line below the lashes.  The entire look was more natural… but the eyes weren’t as pronounced?

Sigh.  So I’m in a dilemma now… to draw above or below?

Eyeshadow

Author: uptowngal

To feed my recent interest in eyeshadow (i’ve been surviving on mint green, purple, and blue eyeshadow so far), i decided to diversify into other colours available.  I know that i can’t take pinkish tones (makes me look like my eye kena boxed) but i thought i’ll experiment with browns.

So i bought this “Mocha Latte” eyeshadow from Silkygal last week.  I liked the brown very much… but the “latte” shade had a pinkish undertone and didn’t suit my skin very well.  Yesterday, i was at Parkway Parade with Azure and i decided to try some other shades of brown.  So i bought this 3-shade eyeshadow from Canmake.  Tried it on this morning but had a lot of problems getting the colour to show up on my eye.  It’s like you can apply layer after layer but the colour just doesn’t seem to appear… compared to Silkygal eyeshadow where just 1 stroke of the brush and the colour’s on the eyelid.

Anyway, decided to warn Azure against buying the dud of an eyeshadow.  Here’s an extract of our conversation on MSN.

Me: the canmake eyeshadow is not good.

Me: very hard to get the colour to appear on the eye.

Me: not good.

Me: don’t buy.

Azure: ok.

Azure: they should rename it to canNOTmake it.

Wahahahaha… corny.  :P
