Off and on, my Toshiba Protege M500 would have this problem – it would connect to my modem via wireless network, but not to the Internet. Sometimes rebooting helps, or shutting down and restarting the laptop… or sometimes i switch off and on my modem again. That helps too. But it can be extremely frustrating rebooting the laptop, or switching off and on the modem, and waiting for it to connect to the Internet again.
Couple of days ago, i found a solution to the problem. The trick is to go to the “Wireless Network Connection Status” dialogue box, click Disable, then Enable it again! So i guess it might be a software problem. Perhaps my Windows XP Home Edition gets cranky at times.
