For the longest time, I never really watched C-dramas.
I mostly watched K-dramas, and whenever people recommended Chinese dramas to me, I would usually pass. It wasn’t that I had anything against them — I just never found one that truly grabbed my attention.
Then I watched Pursuit of Jade.
What surprised me most was how invested I became in the story. The plot was full of twists and turns, and just when I thought I knew what was going to happen next, the drama would throw something unexpected at me. It kept me curious and made it very difficult to stop watching.
The characters were another reason I loved it so much. They felt layered and believable and I found myself becoming emotionally attached to their journeys. The chemistry between the leads was excellent but what really stood out to me was how much I cared about what happened to them.
One thing that says a lot about how much I enjoyed this drama is the fact that I immediately wanted to watch it again. In fact, I’m currently on my second watch and fully expect there will be a third.
What Pursuit of Jade did was something I never expected: it opened the door to C-dramas for me. Instead of automatically reaching for another K-drama, I now find myself looking at Chinese dramas and wondering what other gems I might have been missing all these years.
Will every C-drama be as good as Pursuit of Jade? Probably not. But it was good enough to change my viewing habits, and that’s about the highest compliment I can give it.
