Here’re some clearer photos that my friend took during the concert!
Lovely lovely concert! I’ve been listening to his songs all weekend (playing them off my Nokia even when I’m in the shower). Haha.

I really must apologise for the poor quality of the videos filmed with my Nokia X6 (the sound is a lot better than the visual!!). I’m waiting for the better quality videos taken with my friend’s digicam. Will post them once I get them! (Though it may take some time…)
Here’s a selection of fast and slow songs from last night.
David treated all his fans to his guitar playing (he had like 3-4 different guitars!). The stage was set up to look like a living room from the 70s. Instead of having whole orchestras and backup singers like his previous concerts, David chose to stick to a simple 5 piece band (himself included) so the feel of the music was very different. The atmosphere was terrific and the audience lapped up every song. I’m so sad he may not be having another concert for some time now as he moves to the next phase of his career. Boohoohoo!
Here’re some of the songs I like from David Tao’s latest album. I think out of the 14 songs, I only didn’t enjoy 2 songs… loved the rest! Even though I downloaded the album from Nokia’s Come With Music, I saw on one of his interviews on youtube that he also filmed a 1hr short film / protracted MV clip for the album. Wonder if the hard copy album comes with it… if it does, I’m getting it!
By the way, with the release of this album, David Tao has completed his contract with his recording company and is now a free agent. He will be moving on to directing movies, which was what he studied in college. He said he’ll still be making music… but it wouldn’t be his focus anymore. Sob. Wonder when we’ll hear another album from him!
What I really love about his albums is that he is able to use many different musical styles – rock & roll (his favourite), R&B, ballads, etc, but each of his song has a very unique melody that stays with you long after you hear it. Definitely not run of the mill. He’s such a talented musician!
The “turtle†twitter bird looks damn funny.
Sigh. I was actually testing www.tweetswitch.com, an application that’s supposed to allow you to receive your tweets on instant messengers (MSN, gtalk, ICQ, etc) and it wasn’t working. Maybe it’s a twitter issue… hmmm…
Mobile phone use may stave off, reverse Alzheimer’s: study

WASHINGTON : Long suspected of causing brain tumours, mobile phones are now being eyed as key allies in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, US researchers said Wednesday in a study.
Researchers at the University of South Florida (USF) found, to their surprise, that 96 mice they zapped twice daily for an hour each time with electromagnetic waves similar to those generated by US mobile (cellular) phones benefited from the exposure.
Long-term exposure to the electromagnetic waves in mobile phones wiped out deposits of beta-amyloid – a protein fragment that accumulates in the brain of Alzheimer’s sufferers to form the disease’s signature plaques – in older mice and improved their memories, the study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease showed.
Young adult mice with no apparent signs of memory impairment were protected against Alzheimer’s disease after several months’ exposure to the mobile phone waves, and the memories of normal mice with no genetic predisposition for Alzheimer’s disease were boosted after exposure to the electromagnetic waves.
No one was more surprised than the researchers themselves, who had embarked on the tests several years ago, convinced they would show "that the electromagnetic fields from a cell phone would be deleterious to Alzheimer’s mice," lead author Gary Arendash, a USF professor, told AFP.
"When we got our initial results showing a beneficial effect, I thought, ‘Give it a few more months and it will get bad for them.’
"It never got bad. We just kept getting these beneficial effects in both the Alzheimer’s and normal mice," Arendash said.
It took several months of exposure before the benefits were seen in mice, and that would be the equivalent of many years in humans, Arendash said.
The mice in the study didn’t wear tiny headsets or have scientists holding mobile phones up to their ears. Instead, their cages were arranged around an antenna that generated a mobile phone signal.
Each animal was housed the same distance from the antenna and exposed to electromagnetic waves equivalent to what is typically emitted by a mobile phone pressed up against a human head.
"Since we selected electromagnetic parameters that were identical to human cell phone use and tested mice in a task closely analogous to a human memory test, we believe our findings could have considerable relevance to humans," Arendash said.
But William Thies, chief medical and scientific officer of the Alzheimer’s Association, said the study was "very preliminary" and warned against self-medicating by over-using a cell phone.
"No one should feel they are being protected from Alzheimer’s, dementia, cognitive decline by using their cell phones based on this study," Thies said in a statement.
The study "needs to be replicated in animals before we begin to even consider trying it in people, as animal models of Alzheimer’s and people with the disease are very different," he said.
The researchers concurred that more research is needed to find out, among other things, what the optimal "dosage" of electromagnetic waves would be – the 918 megaHerz in US mobile phones, 800 megaHerz in European phones, or another frequency – and how long "treatment" would have to be given before benefits are seen.
"If we can determine the best set of electromagnetic parameters to effectively prevent beta-amyloid aggregation and remove pre-existing beta amyloid deposits from the brain, this technology could be quickly translated to human benefit against Alzheimer’s disease," said USF professor Chuanhai Cao.
But, warned the Alzheimer’s Association, just because something works in mice with Alzheimer’s, doesn’t mean it will work in humans.
"Therapies that have been ‘successful’ in mouse models of Alzheimer’s have not worked in people," Thies said.
The potential new, non-invasive and drug-free therapy could also be used to treat one of the invisible injuries suffered by soldiers in war, Cao said.
"Since production and aggregation of beta-amyloid occurs in traumatic brain injury, particularly in soldiers during war, the therapeutic impact of our findings may extend beyond Alzheimer’s disease," he said.
Alzheimer’s Disease International, which groups Alzheimer associations around the world, has predicted that around 36 million people will be living with dementia this year.
Pentagon officials have said that up to 360,000 US veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan may have suffered brain injuries.

Wordmobi
This is a WordPress blogging software for S60v5 phones. It also allows you to insert pictures and links in your blog posts. You can also choose to publish or save your post. Visit http://code.google.com/p/wordmobi/ to download.
Threadsms
It puzzles me why Nokia, which had a “chat style†sms application for S60v3 phones in its Betalab, did not roll out this function for all their handphones. This is after all one of the most common and most popular functions of many many other handphone manufacturers (HTC, Sony Ericsson, Apple).
After hunting around a little, I found a nifty application for S60v5 phones called Threadsms. Visit http://ehandysoft.com/threadsms.htm to download. Please note that the app costs about S$20. I’m running the free trial version currently, and it’s sufficient for my needs, though the smses I send using the app has “Threadsms†appended at the end of the message.
Bible Software by Olivetree
I’ve not decided if I want to pay close to S$20 for a NIV bible. I’m currently using the free KJV bible from Olivetree. You can download this here: http://store.ovi.com/content/21223.
Gravity
This is the best twitter mobile client I’ve found so far. It supports multiple twitter / statusnet accounts and you can upload pictures very very easily with it. Twibble also supports the uploading of pictures, though it isn’t very stable – my pictures wouldn’t load 50% of the time. To get Gravity, click here: http://store.ovi.com/content/6855. The trial only lasts 10 days unfortunately. Snaptu is also a great twitter app (among other functions) but does not support the uploading of pictures. That said, I suppose one could always e-mail the photo to twitpic in order to upload it…
Windows Live Messenger
YES! The official Windows chat messenger is available for Nokia’s S60v5 phones! Hooray for it! It works pretty much the same as the desktop MSN, supporting offline messaging, profile pictures, etc. Get this fantastic app here: http://store.ovi.com/content/16229.

Nokia Photo Browser
Another great app from Nokia Betalabs, this photo browser makes viewing of your images very easy and you can zoom in simply by “pressing†your finger against the spot you want to zoom in on (I’m talking about touch screen phones ya?). Get this fun app here: http://store.ovi.com/content/3612.

Golden Village

Nokia recently filed a complaint with the International Trade Centre in relation to its claim that Apple has infringed its patent. A summary of Nokia’s complaint is as follows:
- The navigation wheel in iPods infringes Nokia’s patent from 2001 that patents a very similar technology.
- iPhone and iPod Touch infringe Nokia’s patent from 2000 where the keys of a virtual keyboard on touch screen become larger when user touches the keyboard.
- Most of Apple’s products infringe Nokia’s patent from 1998 related to text- and email messages where the phone numbers as well as www and email addresses are highlighted inside of the before mentioned messages. Then, for example, by clicking such highlighted phone number user can make a phone call or save the number in the address book. A click to a www address can open the web browser.
- iPhone infringes Nokia’s patent from 2003 that describes a technology to shut off the touch screen of the phone during a phone call so that user’s ear or cheek would not cause false presses in the UI
- Multiple Apple’s products infringe a patent that involes "combining multiple functionality of the camera on the same chip"
- iPhone infringes Nokia’s patent (that saves space in the device) that "combines the antenna around the speaker". As a bonus a patent around power saving is mentioned.
Sigh. I think Nokia really need to market themselves better ‘cos most people probably didn’t even realise Nokia owned the above technologies.
