I’ll be going to Australia for about 2.5 weeks starting 18 Mar. Am happy to be going on a long leave and to a place I’ve never been before… but I’m also worried that it’ll be a bit of a waste of time. I’ll be going to Melbourne, Tasmania and Adelaide and I have no idea what I can do and how to get about in Melbourne and Tasmania. Haven’t had the time to check out any info on Melbourne and Tasmania at all! Will be meeting up with Iceman in Adelaide so that portion of the trip should be ok.
Strangely, I don’t have very high expectations of Australia. That’s probably why I’ve never felt a strong urge to visit the country. Heh… apparently, Australia is the first "angmoh" country that Singaporeans visit so I’m kind of like an outlier not having visited Australia before.
Anyway, if anyone has ANY recommendations at all about what to do in Melbourne & Tasmania, or tips on travelling in Australia at all, please drop me a comment!!
Tasmania… you can go to Wine Glass Bay… or goto St Helen’s and pick up fresh oysters from the rocky beach. As for Melbourne, there’s the italian restaurants on Lygon Street- Brunettis on Faraday is a must. The cheap and good old La Porchetta restaurant opp Vic Market also must try. Walking to Block Arcade off Lt Collins Street is something to behold. Just be careful about the heat- we’re experiencing a heat wave at the moment. And its over 35C, its ultra sharp heat, and very dry. Different from tropical heat that we have in Spore. In Melbourne, there’s also a free tram service- called City Circle I think.
hi there! sorry, didn’t see your comments before i left for Aust. am leaving Melb for Ade in a couple of hours. was really pressed for time in Melb & Tas!! i went to St Kilda, some factory outlet place, the Crown Casino (cos my cousin works there) in Melb, and for Tas, i visited Port Arthur, Mt Wellington, Salamanca area & the city area.
weather’s really freaky… i’m freezing my fingers off as i type ‘cos i think it’s about 15deg now… and when i was in Tas (that’s supposed to be real cold right?), the temp hit 32 deg. *faints*.
