Booze Queen and I have been going to our favourite eating places around Raffles Place to bid farewell to the food we love. Here’re some of them.
The crab beehoon at Don’s Pie at China Square Central. The soup has a herbal base and slices of yam that are boiled till they melt in your mouth. The noodles (chu mifen) is delicious as it absorbs the taste of the soup, and the sweetness of the crab. It costs S$16 per bowl. Definitely worth every dollar!
Baikohken is a ramen place at 7 North Canal Road. The chefs are from Japan so you get authentic ramen. The menu’s rather limited but hey, we’re talking about quality here. Not quantity. My personal favourite is the butter and corn ramen. You absolutely must try the egg. It’s sooooo good. The above is a pic of the Miso Butter & Corn Ramen + egg. Costs S$12. Yummy!
Booze Queen and I visited my favourite fish soup place at Golden Shoe. This is super value for money. The big bowl above cost only S$4! (The usual bowl costs $3… I asked for the medium serving ‘cos I didn’t have rice with it). The stall also serves a large serving at $5 per bowl. The soup is light and not overly milky. The fish slices are extremely smooth and very fresh! (I’m very particular about seafood that smell fishy). The stall is also generous with the fried shallot and hua diao – you can ask for more. The stall doesn’t seem to have a name but it’s at #03-25 Golden Shoe. Be prepared to queue for a bit but it’s worth the wait!
That’s all for now… Booze Queen and I intend to visit this Vietnamese cuisine restaurant at Circular Rd & have the seafood beehoon at Il Fiore. Will post more pictures in time to come!
Testing again.. This is supposed to update my twitter page..

Felt a tinge of sadness when I bought coffee from Coffee & Toast this morning. Sigh. Today is our 3rd last day at Singapore Land Tower (SLT). Our office will be shifting to a new location in Tanjong Pagar. I’ve been working at SLT since 2004. That’s 5 years at this fantastic location, never mind the office itself isn’t that new.
Sigh…
I wasn’t going to raise a complaint initially ‘cos I have resigned myself to the fact that outsourced helpdesk are extremely sucky and if I want anything done, I have to do it myself (tech / sales issues regardless). However, after I sent my last ditch enquiry to Nokia to find out more about the X6, I was asked to do a survey. So I gave it to them.
This was my feedback:
I first wrote in to Nokia on 19 Oct 2009 to enquire about when the X6 will be available for sale in Singapore. Ms Shiela L. replied on 20 Oct 2009 saying that Nokia has no information release dates and "Please note that all new product launches are carrier and market dependent in all countries as all phones will have to undergo testing and approval from the authorities in the respective country…"
I followed Ms Shiela’s advice and checked with Singtel regarding the X6’s launch date. Singtel, however, replied saying that "the launch date has yet to be confirmed by Nokia".
On 6 Nov 2009, after reading about how Rihanna has been roped in to promote the X6 through a webcast on 16 Nov 2009, I eagerly wrote in to Nokia AGAIN to ask when will it be available in Singapore. It was therefore disgusting to see the same cookie cutter reply from Ms Ana saying YET AGAIN that "In response to your inquiry, the Nokia X6 is an upcoming phone model which is yet to be released in Singapore.
All new product launches are carrier and market dependent in all countries as all phones will have to undergo testing and approval from the authorities in the respective country. Testing will be conducted to ensure compatibility with the networks and government regulations. Please be advised that, we are unable to provide specific release dates ahead of time. You may also find it helpful to contact your local authorised Nokia retailer or network service provider as they may be able to provide details as to when they plan to release this phone model for retail."
So what am I supposed to do now? Here I am trying to give Nokia business, but I’m being bounced from Nokia to Singtel to Nokia back to Singtel. Maybe that’s why Nokia made huge losses in the last quarter. In any case, I’ve decided to get an iPhone, and as for the X6, thanks but no thanks. Nokia’s service sucks.
StarHub to bring iPhone to customers in Singapore
Published November 10th, 2009 in Geek Speak. 0 CommentsWow… no wonder Singtel has been so aggressive in pushing its iPhone sales… ‘cos now not only is M1 getting hopping on the bandwagon, Starhub too!
==================
SINGAPORE: StarHub has announced that it will bring the iPhone to its customers in Singapore later this year after reaching an agreement with Apple.
The telecommunications company said on Monday it looks forward to offering the iPhone and a range of tailored service plans to its customers.
It added that more information on pricing and availability dates will be released in due course.
StarHub is the last of the three phone service providers here to reach a deal with Apple in offering the iPhone. Last month, Mobile One said it would also sell the iPhone later this year.
SingTel began offering Apple’s third generation network iPhones late last year. Since then, with the exclusive agreement, SingTel has sold more than 100,000 iPhones.

With reference to my previous post about not being able to get the Nokia threaded SMS software & Live Messenger to work, and how eBuddy causes my hp to hang repeatedly, I’ve since moved on to another IM client and am pleased to report that it hasn’t caused my hp to hang (to date). This new IM client is called IM+. I think the programme on the site is chargeable, but i managed to find a trial version (that’s free and has no banner ads!!) from Nokia’s OVI store. Hehehehe. Hope the trial version remains available till I get my new Nokia!!
Did you know that Nokia also allows you to log onto certain chat platforms? Unfortuntely, I think MSN is not one of the services available. (I believe it’s restricted to Yahoo & Gtalk). I’m now setting up my hp to test the Nokia Messaging programme for e-mail & chat. Will post my verdict on it later!!
