Home Sweet Home

Back in Singapore.  Ho Chi Minh was nice… crazy traffic, great service standards, horrible weather… list goes on.  Will have to save photos and details for another night.  Tired now… sick too (cold, bad bad sore throat)… and i need to work tomorrow.

A lot of things on my mind now… a problematic case that i need to deal with tomorrow… and the seemingly unbridgeable distance between a friend and me.  Bleah.  Tired  Need rest.

Goodnight!

Saigon Saigon!

1:05pm.  Handphone rings.

Me: Yes Boss?

Boss: Hey, i’m doing the binding process for XXXX client.  Anything else that needs to be done?

Me: That should be all boss.  The new UT deal will be next week… DB can ring the underwriter tonight if need be?

Boss: Don’t forget the Terrorism Cover for Pakistan… but can do that next week.  So what time do we meet at the airport?

Me: It’s a group check in lah.  So everyone’s supposed to meet at 3:30pm even though the flight’s at 5:45pm.

Boss: What time will u be there?

Me: 3:30pm lor.  I don’t want to be the black sheep that makes everyone late.  I just started packing my luggage.

Boss: If it’s any consolation, i haven’t packed mine.  Some of us have to work u know.

Me: Haha.

Boss: Think i should get u that laptop soon man.  U’re supposed to be doing this work.

Me: Thanks Boss.  Cya at the airport.  Heehee.

The Crying Game

Just saw The Crying Game at Birdland just now.  Weird movie.  Don’t understand how one can lump the IRA (as in Irish Republican Army… not to be confused with IRAS… i know it’s tax filing time!) with a romance between a soldier, a tranvestite, and a IRA volunteer, who loves the tranvestite, but cannot accept the fact that it’s a “shim”.  What the heck man!

But then again, there’re a lot of weird relationships around i suppose… people who can meet 4 – 5x a week, cosy up during movies or while napping, and then behave like perfectly normal friends at all other times.

Hmm…

Territorial

Mr. Abandoned was right after all.  I AM territorial!  Iceman met up with Alt-S in Shanghai… a gal whom before he left, he was cursing and swearing about not wanting to see her ever again.

One night in Shanghai and his attitude spun 180deg.  I kept asking Iceman if he’s interested in her (‘cos we were teasing him previously that she may be interested in him).  He says no.  But he kept telling me about the stuff they did, and the wonderful chats they had, some scandals that got sparked off, etc.

Strangely, i was kind of jealous of Alt-S.  If she was a “prospect”, i would have no problems with that.  But it seems like she may be the new best friend of Iceman?  No!!!  There can only be 1 BFS!  And that’s me!  Sigh… was complaining about her all week to HD.  Haha.  He promised he won’t meet her so i would at least have 1 friend left… haha.

Oh well, we find out something new about ourselves every now and then don’t we?  I’m territorial.  *Grrr…* hear me roar.

Hou Hou Hou Happy

I had a happy Monday… which was rather unexpected ‘cos i thought i would have a “long weekend” hangover. Had my first dose of hou happiness during coffee break with HD in the morning, then met Green Apple for lunch for a booster hou happy dose… and finally… heeheehee… the last hou happy dose… which was the most over-powering dose of all… wahahaha…

Bumped into a friend of my colleague WC, who also happens to be part of AKKK’s balaclava cheonging gang at the lobby of my office building when i was on my way back after coffee break with HD. This chap, let’s call him ONSer, works on the 39th floor of my office building. Seeing him looking at me, i turned and waved at him and didn’t think much about it after that.

Lately on in the afternoon, WC said that ONSer messaged her on MSN and said he saw me that morning. Apparently, he colleagues were checking me out when i turned and waved at him and his colleagues said, “What? You know her?”. Then they (i quote) “sighed with envy”. ONSer told WC to tell me that i have a “fan base” in the building.

Hiak hiak… so my head’s like bigger than my curls now. Hahahaha. But it made my day. Hehe. ONSer got my MSN contact from WC and he was the first person to message me when i logged on this morning. Heehee… wonder if he knows how bad his rep is… which in case u haven’t figured out, ONSer = One Night Stander… 😛

Diva Pricing

Went shopping with Azure on Saturday. There’s this shop with lots of pretty and cheap accessories (though some had rather rough finishing) called Diva. I saw this pair of earrings that i thought was really nice but when i flipped over the tag, i saw that it was made in China and the price was RM19. So i asked the sales girl how much was the cost.

She went to check and said, “SGD10”.

My immediate response was, “Wah! Made in China, sold in M’sia, and marked up for Singapore market? Can i pay in Ringgit uh?”

Long Weekend’s Almost Over…

Sigh… the long weekend is drawing to an end.  Kind of sad… it was a good weekend mostly.  I say mostly because 2 things marred my weekend.  Although they’re not very major incidents but they surfaced once in a while and are like a blemish on an otherwise porcelain smooth skin.

First incident was at Balaclava on Thursday night.  My friend’s friend introduced us to his friend and his friend, unfortunately, turned out to be a big buaya.  We shook hands and… he held onto my fingers when i tried to pull my hand away.  In that split second, i did think about whether i wanted to tell him off… but i chose to keep my peace, though i ignored him and refused to go near him for the rest of the night.  Asshole.

Second incident was a row i had with my ex-bf on MSN last night.  Long long story that i’m too tired to repeat in detail here.  In a nutshell, i feel that his repeated attempts to “be friends” are very fake ‘cos in his phone calls previously, all he seemed to want to know was whether i’m seeing anyone, and i never realised how possessive he can be till we broke up.  He, on the other hand, feels that i’ve misunderstood him, and am taking him for a fool (i’m quoting what his MSN nick says).  I could copy & paste all our chat history here for the world to judge… but what’s the point?  Sigh.

I’m looking forward to this week ‘cos it’s going to be a short work week – 4 days!  And i’ll be off to Ho Chi Minh on Friday!  Whoopee!  However, i’m also a little apprehensive ‘cos i’m wondering if it’s time for some dalliances to come to an end.  Don’t ask me why… it’s just a feeling.

Whatever the case, i really hope i can wrap up the deal that i’m doing for my client (yes, the same client… “Mr. H”… haven’t thought what nick to give him) tomorrow.  Wouldn’t want to screw up things for our fave client now ya?  🙂

Dinner time!

Happy Easter

I have lagged, once again.  During the sermon today, the speaker spoke about how Christian scholars have overturned the Discovery Channel’s documentary on having found the tomb of Jesus (together with his alleged wife, kid, etc) earlier this year.  But the tomb was discovered in 1980 and a BBC documentary has been made on it before… albeit with less marketing aplomb i guess so it didn’t make as much of a splash as the Discovery Channel documentary.

I did some search online for both sides of the stories – what did the documentary have to say about having “found” the bones of Jesus (note: this is a serious allegation ‘cos if u found God’s bones… it would mean God wasn’t God… esp. since Jesus is a risen Saviour, i.e. no bones!!), and what did Christian scholars have to say to overturn this claim.

Conclusion?  I thought both sides made some rather significant assumptions in their arguments for and against the topic… which means that if i were a neutral party, i wouldn’t believe either side.  I would have liked to do my own personal research and draw my own conclusion…. but that is something that cannot be done easily since that would entail mastering Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, understanding technical fields like archaeology, ossuary, apologetics etc.  It would require a lifetime of devotion and this renews my respect for people who have spent many years on their areas of specialisation, as they use their time to justify their faith.

But i am not a neutral party.  I believe in God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.  I have said before and i will say it again – spiritual faith is something that must be experienced.  Just like politics, u can argue till the cows come home and still not convince another person to follow your belief.

So what’s the difference this time?  Well, i suddenly feel inadequate.  Not that i’m deserting my belief, but i strongly believe that the time has come for me to buck up in my biblical knowledge.  Note – i’m not saying i need more evidence for me to believe in Jesus.  But more in-depth knowledge is needed so that my faith can grow.

A simple faith is good.  A simplistic faith, needs maturing.

Happy Easter.

Who is My Neighbour?

In tort law, there is a very famous “neighbour” principle, established by Lord Atkin in the final hearing of the Donoghue v. Stevenson [1932] (aka the case of “The Snail in the Gingerbeer Bottle”), used in establishing a breach in the duty of care.

In his judgment, Lord Atkin said:

“The rule that you are to love your neighbour becomes in law, you must not injure your neighbour; and the lawyer’s question, Who is my neighbour? receives a restricted reply. You must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which you can reasonably foresee would be likely to injure your neighbour. Who, then, in law is my neighbour? The answer seems to be – persons who are so closely and directly affected by my act that I ought reasonably to have them in contemplation as being so affected when I am directing my mind to the acts or omissions which are called in question.”

Some colleagues and i were recently discussing the issue of office romance.  Miraculously, my company has an amazing number of successful cases where the dating couples got married.  There was even a successful “reverse takeover” (zha bor got pregnant with superior’s kid leading to superior divorcing his wife, who tried to slap the pregnant mistress in office, not realising that pregnant mistress used to be a national judo competitor.  The slap did not take place.)

Our conclusion was – don’t shit in your own backyard.

The conversation then turned to the issue of dating clients.  After the pros and cons were raised, WC concluded, “Well, client is still your backyard”.

And that brought to mind Lord Atkin’s last sentence… “persons who are so closely and directly affected by my act…”
