Also, if you thought constipation was a big deal for humans, it’s really a lot worse for bunnies. Did u know that constipation can be a sign of intestinal blockage, and that is FATAL?!?? My dearest Pinky has not been passing motion since yesterday so i’m really kind of worried now. Am thinking of taking off tomorrow morning to bring Pinky to the vet though i haven’t booked an appointment yet. Would have liked to spend the day with Pinky but have too many things in office to settle. ๐
Pinky’s daily growth has been amazing. Yesterday, she started standing very firmly & steadily on her hind legs and it seems to give her so much pleasure to do that. This afternoon, she dirtied the usual DHL jumbo box we place her in. So my dad transferred her to a slightly smaller box while he changed the DHL box.
Halfway through changing the box, my dad got an overseas call so he went out of Pinky’s bedroom to answer the phone. Next thing he knew, Pinky came out of the bedroom and stood on her hind legs looking at him. My dad had to cut the call short to put her back into the box! Haha… brillant isn’t she?
And ‘cos she’s been darting around SO fast that it’s almost impossible for me to catch her sometimes, i’ve been placing her on a leash since yesterday. Heh. I bought this leash sometime back but never got to use it ‘cos it’s too small for the other rabbits.. It’s just the right size for Pinky (it’s meant for guinea pigs & “small animals”). The leash has leather loops that Pinky’s front legs go into, and a string that goes round her back. I feel safer to put Pinky on a leash when i let her run about ‘cos at least this way, i don’t have to worry about losing her under the bed.
Took some photos of Pinky with the leash just now. ๐ Have a look!
Pinky on a leash.
Did a turn too fast and the poor bunny skidded…
Ah… nothing keeps it down.
This is my FAVOURITE Pinky photo of all time! That black thing is the leash she’s wearing. Darn cute right??
Horlick’s the mother but who’s the father…?
There’s still a bit of speculation over Pinky’s parentage. I’m convinced it’s Muah Chee ‘cos Fatty was exactly the same colour as MC so i’m sure MC’s the daddy.
However, as Pinky’s ears are currently standing, my dad thinks it’s Coffee. Clown’s torn in between i think… hahaha.
Whatever the case, we’ll know as Pinky gets a little older ‘cos i believe the ears will drop as they grow longer. As it is, Pinky’s ears are relatively long for her size, even if they’re still standing!
I know my blog’s all about Pinky now but it’s always easier to type about happy stuff. There should be 2 more gripe posts coming soon… once i find the time to articulate my annoyance!
Pinky’s says, “bye bye & goodnight!”
Pinkys sleeping really soundly in the “gym” room on the same level as my bedroom now. (Had to shift her up from the guest bedroom on the 2nd floor ‘cos my dad sprayed insecticide there).
Anyway, i took some pictures of Pinky in her deep sleep. Here they are!
Full, satisfied, and sleepy.
“They made me take a ‘bath’!”
Sleepy time…
After registering, i brought MC outside the clinic to wait ‘cos the horrible dog’s panting scared him out of his wits. MC just crouched inside his carrier & looked at us at a 45deg angle. I tried to calm MC down and told him that if any dogs tried to bully him, i’ll kill all the evil dogs but MC was still petrified.
There was nothing much i could do so i handed MC over to the vet’s assistant for them to prepare him for surgery. I’m really not sure what goes on during surgery ‘cos Singapore vets don’t seem to share much information with clients. (As a matter of fact, i’ve come to discover that breeders tend to know tons more about taking care of rabbits than vets… which kind of makes me lose confidence in them sometimes.)
I went to pick up MC from the vet again at 6:30pm. He was awake but still seemed rather scared. I saw that his left eye was a little damp but there was nothing i could do to ease his pain. After bringing Muah Chee home & he came out of his cage, i saw that the fur underneath his right eye was caked with dried tears. Oh dear! My heart went out to the poor boy and i felt really really bad for sterilizing him. Clown kept saying that i was cruel but it’s really really difficult to take care of baby rabbits and everytime a baby dies, my heart breaks. I simply can’t imagine what life would be if i had to take care of baby rabbits every month! (Yes, adult rabbits can breed on a monthly basis!)
I’m not sure if i should sterilize Coffee now or wait till he’s a little older ‘cos i’m not sure which will be more painful – now, when his genitals are not as developed, or when he’s a full grown buck like MC.
Anyway, please don’t make painful jokes about MC being a eunuch ok? He’s really in a lot of pain and i think he’s a brave boy to not throw any tantrum or whine in pain. MC hasn’t ate anything since coming home either. Imagine having to go through a major operation and not be given painkillers after you wake up from the GA. Poor poor boy. If you believe in God, i would greatly appreciate if you pray that God will heal him soon. My dearest dearest Muah Chee.

Whoever said, “Shee shee” equals “Pee”?
Published January 31st, 2006 in Bunnies and Old Blog. 0 CommentsNow, according to all the baby bunnies nursing websites i’ve been reading, one is supposed to help the baby “eliminate” / “defecate” after meals by using a cotton wool dabbed in warm water to stroke the baby’s tummy & anal area. So like all dutiful bunny sitter, i’ve been trying to help Pinky in her digestion & elimination processes by doing the above. Unlike Fatty who would spray his pee (and i mean like shoot all over my t-shirt kind of spray) all over once i used a warm cotton wool to stroke him, Pinky obviously has a tighter control over her bladder.
So the last time when Pinky drank way way way too much milk from her mommy, i half panicked and decided that i should massage her digestive system till she pees ‘cos she was soooo bloated. I was even desperate enough to try and make the traditional “sheeeee sheeee” sound. My… i “sheeee-ed”, and i massaged, and i stroked, and i patted but Pinky just refused to pee!!
Sigh… that night i was really so worried ‘cos her tummy was so huge from all the milk. Even when she stretched out, i could see her slim shoulder, followed by a HUGE ROUND tummy, then slim hips and a pointy tail. It’s really quite scary.
But that’s not the point. I just wanted to reiterate that i’ve concluded that the sound “sheeee sheeee” helps a kid to pee is but a myth.

Ever since Pinky opened her eyes i’ve been trying to teach her how to drink water ‘cos she should be able to eat some hay soon and she’ll probably need to drink water ‘cos hay is very dry.
My 1st attempt was teaching Pinky how to drink water was yesterday. I lined a shallow jam jar cover with a little bit of water & showed it to Pinky. Guess i overestimated the normalcy as to which animals take to water ‘cos Pinky breathed in the water instead! Thank God she managed to “blow” (she made this wheezing sound like how humans blow their nose) out the water.
As Pinky was rather awake just now, i thought it was a good opportunity to get her to learn to drink water again. So once again, i filled the jam jar cover with a little pool of water, and brought it in front of Pinky. While trying to set the jar cover on the floor, i accidentally tipped it a little & spilt the water on the floor. Ahh… that proved to work ‘cos Pinky stepped on the water & promptly took a few licks. Voila! I thought i succeeded in introducing Pinky to the all important skill of drinking water. So i placed the balance water in the jar cover in her box.
Unfortunately, while exploring the box, Pinky started sniffing the jar cover…. and ‘cos only the lower half of the jar cover had water in it, Pinky probably wasn’t aware that there was water there. So she was happily sniffing the part w/o water when she suddenly chanced on the water and… uh oh…. she breathed in the water again.
“Phiit! Phiit!” Pinkly blew out the water again. Aiyoh. Poor baby. She got tired after the whole water parade thing and settled down to sleep real quickly. I hope she didn’t breathe in too much water. I’m going to let her take a break b4 resuming her water training again tomorrow.
Sigh… and u thought drinking water would come naturally…
