Dance like no one's watching

ITM is causing me to get a heart attack.  This morning, I requested that she transfers my phone extension to my new seat.  She went into the server room and said she’s done the transfer as per my request.  However, in her brilliance, she managed to cause my extension to ring at 2 seats.

When an external call comes in, the call will go to my old seat.  Same goes for internal calls… the phone at my old seat will ring.  However, if you use the phone at my old seat to call my extension, the phone at my new seat will ring!

It’s so brilliant I can’t figure out how she did it. 

When I told ITM about the problem, she insisted that it’s ‘cos I didn’t physically change the phones from my old seat to my new seat.  COME ON LAH!  If physically changing the phones will effect a transfer, then when people move house, does that mean they just bring their phones along with them, plug it into the line at their new house, and the number is transferred?!  DUH!??

*Breathes deeply to cool down*

ITM insisted that I physically change phones to "test".  So I obliged to demonstrate to her that that is NOT how lines are transferred.  She then said, "Ok.  I know what the problem is now", to which I said, "I hope you do".

But that would be expecting too much of her obviously.  ‘Cos she went to HKie for help… and he’s no better… ‘cos I had to explain the entire damn story to him…. and they’re both currently in the server room trying to fix it.

Gosh.  Can one get any more stupid?

Two new staff joined us recently.  One’s a very experienced lady who shall be known as “Ms Firefox” and the other is the temp staff who shall be known as “Cache”.

I named Ms Firefox as such ‘cos the programme that she’s in charge of sounds like the name of an Internet browser.  And the temporary internet folder in a browser is known as cache so… you get the drift.

Cache is quite apt for a nick… ‘cos he’s pretty adept with the pc.  I see him creating a form for Upsize in Excel and he’s fast! 

Had lunch with Firefox & Cache and they seem all right.  Hope my first impression turns out right!

Do you think I could train Horlicks to do this?  Heh.

Horlicks amazes me.  She’s a free spirit with little care for anything except seizing the moment and erm, doing whatever she wants.  Like sprawling on the floor asleep… never mind if the water container is in her way…

She has little regard for humans too.  Heh.  Two weeks back, Iceman was sitting on the floor watching TV.  Horlicks first placed her 2 front paws on his tummy.  Seeing no response from Iceman, she decided to push her luck and hopped on top of his tummy.  Still no reaction from Iceman so she stepped down the other side of him, turned back to give him a "you’re such a bore" look and ran off.  Heh.  It was hilarious.  

A temp staff (who just finished NS and is waiting to start uni) will be joining us on Monday to help out in my dept.  I’m supposed to assign things to him to do but I really can’t think of much things.  Iceman suggested making him buy kopi and curry puff… which I guess might be the most productive thing he can contribute… but then I found out he’s a son of my CEO so… maybe I need to buy kopi & curry puff for him instead.

Anyway, I finally moved to Beanstalk’s seat, which is directly behind my original workstation so that the temp staff can take my recently vacated workstation.  Spent about 1.5hrs during lunch moving my pc and belongings.  I initially wanted IT to move my pc for me ‘cos the wires were kind of dusty and I didn’t want to risk chipping my nails.  But since I removed my nail polish last night, I decided to roll up my sleeves and do it myself since it’ll take forever for them to do it.  (And they might short circuit my pc by plugging in the cables wrongly or something).

While moving my things, it suddenly occurred to me that whatever my IT dept does in office… was what I used to do when I was a temp staff at a local ISP helpdesk waiting to start university.  Sigh.  Maybe we should hire more temps to replace them.  Hmm…

We have some regional colleagues who fly in from Hong Kong from time to time and I know they’re just being friendly by making small talk since we don’t see them on a daily basis.  I’m fine with them borrowing a bit of our desk space to check their emails or do some work on their laptop.  But it gets a little annoying when I’m trying to rush work and they’re trying to make small talk.  Perhaps it’s an attempt to be polite since they are borrowing our desk space but it is really not necessary.  People really underestimate the value of "silence is golden".

*Rolls eyes*.

Received an sms from an ex-colleague from the ISP helpdesk I used to work at.  It said:

“Hi, Desperado here.  I’m mailing out tupperware catalogues.  Can I get your address? :)”.

*Rolls eyes again*.

This explains why, after years of not contacting me, I got an sms from him earlier this year wishing me a belated happy new year and asking how I was.  Call me cynical but I think he was just checking if my hp no. was still valid.

When we were still working at the helpdesk, he used to be into selling magnetic mattress and he used to try very hard to convince us to attend those marketing talks held by his company.

Now that he’s into tupperware sales, he’s trying to get all chummy again.  Crap.  Can’t stand people who only contact you when they’re trying to sell you something.  They’re as bad (if not worse) than insurance agents. 

Bleah.  I’ve never attended any magnetic mattress talk and I’m certainly not going to spam my mail box with tupperware catalogues.

*Ignores sms*.

The shape of the dress can’t really be seen as the designer (aka tailor) is holding it up.  It’s a halter-cut cheongsam from the front.

The ruffles at the back flows from waist down.  Gives it a softer look.

The colour looks quite nice here but when I tried it on, I looked a little sallow in it.  Maybe due to the yellow light in the fitting room…*shrugs*

Decided to make use of my made to measure option to have the same gown design but sewn in another colour.  Went shopping at Arab Street yesterday and found a piece of cloth I like… just hope the designer will be able to find matching lace… ‘cos I think the green dress above is nice ‘cos the lace is the same colour as the dress.  Sigh.  :/

Bade farewell to the Sunny on Saturday.  It has been a good, hardworking car for 3.5 years but Iceman and I had a super good deal for the Latio Sport in Nov ’08 so we decided to trade in the Sunny for the Latio.  After waiting for 3 months to get our COE and the car fixed up (solar film, rust proofing, etc), the Latio was finally ready for collection on Sat.

It was no sports car but it was ever reliable.  We were told that it’ll be sent straight to the export zone.

I noticed recently that it’s less crowded during lunch time at Raffles Place.  At first I thought people were clearing leave in Dec.  Then I thought maybe some people took long leave ‘cos of Chinese New Year.  But it’s 13th Feb and the lunch crowd still appears less than less year.  Then it struck me – could it be ‘cos there’re many banks around Raffles Place and a lot of employees have been retrenched?  Hmm…
